The aim of Hypno-CBT® is to help you achieve greater integration of your thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

Hypno-CBT® is a unique therapeutic integration of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Hypnotherapy and Mindfulness. It is an evidence-based therapy and it is endorsed by the British Psychological Society. It is a therapeutic approach which provides you with the psychological knowledge, skills and techniques to enable you to help yourself and, in effect, become your own therapist. Because of this, Hypno-CBT® tend to involve fewer sessions than many other forms of therapy.

Each of the three areas of Hypno-CBT® is explained below.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT is a form of talking therapy which helps you to identify patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour which are not serving your needs and replace them with more helpful ones. It focuses on dealing with problems that you are facing in the here and now, helping you to find effective ways to manage them.

As you are the expert about you, we work collaboratively together to understand the thoughts, feelings and behaviours which are causing your problems and holding you back. Together, we will take time to explore what is maintaining your problem; we will identify what you want to achieve (your goals) and agree on how this can be achieved. We will use a mixture of discussion, structured questions, imagery techniques (to allow you to practice new coping skills) together with real- life experiments. You will learn how to spot and evaluate unhelpful thinking patterns subsequently replacing them with new ones which will steer you towards your goals. Each week we will track your progress towards these goals, allowing you to celebrate and enjoy the changes which you are instigating in your life.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is proven to help with a wide range of issues. Research shows that it is particularly helpful for dealing with stress related issues, anxiety management, sleep problems and in installing new positive habits. Research also shows that when Hypnosis is combined with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, it significantly enhances its effectiveness.

In essence, Hypnotherapy is a state of deeply focused attention. During hypnosis, you use your imagination to evoke positive emotions and mentally rehearse new ways of thinking and behaving. It’s similar to when you become totally engrossed in a film or in a book; everything else is left behind as you become totally immersed in the experience. It’s usually deeply relaxing and therefore very enjoyable. By relaxing, thinking in ways which will serve your needs, and picturing your goals in detail, Hypnotherapy can help you to change how you think, feel and behave. Typically, therapy sessions conclude with Hypnotherapy and I record this part of the session and send the recording to you. You then have the opportunity to relax and play your recordings at any time of your choosing. With mind and body deeply relaxed and totally focussed on new more beneficial ways of thinking, feeling and behaving, you have the opportunity to bring about the change you want to happen.

Since everything on the recordings is specifically tailored to your needs and to the changes you wish to embed, the recordings provide an extension of your therapy at any time you require it between sessions.

Mindfulness

In its essence, Mindfulness is all about purposefully paying more attention to the present moment. It is about developing greater awareness of what is going on around you and also within you from moment to moment -in a non- judgemental manner.

It is recognised by many, including the NHS, that Mindfulness can improve our overall health and mental well-being.

It is an extremely useful skill to develop since it helps you to recognise where you are placing your attention. it helps you to see when your attention becomes focussed on unhelpful thoughts, for example ruminating on the past or worrying about the future. By practising mindfulness, you learn to become aware of when this is happening. You can then choose when to pay attention to your thoughts and decide when it is more helpful to let them go. You learn to start to be able to stand back and observe your thoughts, without judgement in a spirit of self-acceptance and compassion.

Mindfulness can form a very transformative part of therapy in combination with CBT and Hypnotherapy, depending on your goals.
