Phobias

-
Do you have a specific phobia that is preventing you from living your life as you would wish?
-
It could be a fear of dogs or other animals, spiders or insects, driving, heights, spaces, the dentist or flying, maybe something else?
-
Are you constantly on the lookout for danger?
-
The good news is that phobias do not need to limit your life; you can free yourself from your fear
A phobia can cause significant problems.
Phobias can be crippling and cause much physical and mental distress. This is often compounded by the fact that others don’t realise the impact that the phobia is having on your life. Perhaps an exam phobia prevents you from taking a course or learning to drive? Maybe a fear of dogs prevents you from being able to enjoy walks in the countryside or park with friends and family. Perhaps a fear of needles means you ignore a health issue. Maybe you can’t go on a much longed for holiday due to a fear of flying. You can feel as if you are always having to adapt plans so that you are less likely to have to confront your fear. Life can start to become more limited or you might feel on constant alert for danger.

You can change this: Effective Help for phobias.

You may know your fear is irrational, in that (for instance) your rational mind knows the spider won’t hurt you but nevertheless it terrifies you. Or maybe you feel that your fear has a more rational basis. Your starting point doesn’t matter. We can work together to help you to explore and understand your underlying fears. This allows you the opportunity to re-evaluate them. You can then safely and gradually (working at the pace with which you feel comfortable) develop new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving, which better serve your needs. This will enable you to break free of the fear and anxiety that has been causing you problems.

Both Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Hypnotherapy have a long history of treating phobias and there is a large body of research which shows that they are both very effective therapies. Combined together, they become even more powerful. CBT techniques provide you with the understanding of how the phobia has been maintaining itself and allow you to discover new effective ways to release yourself from your phobia. Hypnotherapy allows you to first work through your fears safely in your imagination- before going out into the world and facing them. You control the situation in your imagination, safely and at your own pace. Your mind and body are then prepared and relaxed in real life situations, free from anxiety. In essence Hypnosis acts like a ‘virtual Reality Stimulator’, and you can see results quickly.
